Hbo max subtitles too big xbox12/20/2023 I was actually for a hot second thinking, wow I didn't remember this bold narrative choice of having them speak in their made up language untranslated for this mainstream blockbuster, until my mom asked why we couldn't tell what they were saying and I was like. Watched Men in Black on Netflix with my mom recently, and the aliens in the restaurant scene start talking to each other. Then those same people go out and watch other non-subbed foreign bits and assume the same thing has happened lol. They're so expressive that you don't actually need subtitles all that much IMO, but I remember lots of comments on every D9 thread basically saying "wait that was mean to be subbed?". The "wait this is meant to have subtitles" one that comes up the most is District 9, for the Prawn bits. This is often quite a funny way of seeing when someone's pirated a movie - since lots of people end up seeing films that didn't have subs baked into the file, they go ahead and assume that every moment in a foreign language should have subs and their copy is defective / deficient. Not at OP here but more a general point I see about subs on Reddit sometimes: Based on your post I don’t think the movie put subs in for those Spanish lines. Tarantino chose subs there and I'm glad.Īlso I really wish I was bilingual and I think if you were and could understand both languages in a film that would be so cool, like a special achievement unlock.īut a lot of times for a language that the main character wouldn’t understand they don’t provide a translation. A contrasting example would be the intro to Inglorious Basterds: that would have been pretty lame to be completely in the dark on all dialouge. I kinda like the "silent film" throwback in acting style where as a viewer you really hone in on body language and voice inflection instead of simply understanding each sentence completely. I just rewatched Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid recently and this technique was utilized well in it. Obviously the director does has to make that decision intentionally though, because I'm not trying to miss important exposition or details from a language gap. I personally like when a movie can use language barriers authentically and artistically to create more mystery. WELP! Turns out, these giant words covering the screen are not translation for the Spanish dialogue. Ok, fine it’s whatever, lets rewind and hit play. It’s not my personal choice, and wouldnt have been too big a deal, but these captions end up taking up half the screen, with no sizing options available! When the dialogue shows up the first time, we realize the subtitles are absent (no original hardcode), so we flip on subs, only to realize that they’re the super descriptive, closed caption kind. There’s quite a bit of Spanish in the film of course. I Was stoked to watch Once Upon a Time In Mexico tonight, but plans fell through. Try these fixes to get back to watching your favorite content.HBO max might have a pretty rad catalogue, but there are many things wrong with the service, and this newly discovered ‘feature’ might take the cake. Subtitles are a boon to the hearing-impaired, so it can be particularly frustrating when they don’t work. HBO Max will have to take care of it from their end, but they need to be aware of the problem first. If this happens, you can’t fix the problem yourself. So it’s possible that some of the data is corrupted, resulting in subtitles appearing incorrectly or at the wrong time. Subtitles aren’t generated automatically they’re uploaded as part of the data with a specific TV show or movie. You can reach them through messaging, phone, or email by going to the Help Center. If you’ve tried every possible step and still can’t get subtitles to load, report the problem to HBO Max. You might have enabled or disabled a setting on one platform that’s still enabled on another. Roku devices often have different settings than your mobile app. Sometimes, server issues might prevent subtitles from working for one platform and not another, even if there are no reported problems. For example, try streaming on your Roku device if HBO Max subtitles won’t load on your smart TV. If you can’t get subtitles to work on one streaming platform, try another. Even if it’s enabled on one, it might not automatically be enabled on another. Too often, it’s easy to forget to select the CC button, especially if you swap between streaming platforms. This will turn on subtitles and start streaming them alongside the audio.
